- Investigate: We don't just accept the government's version of events. At the SBMH law firm, our lawyers work to know more about your case than anyone working for the police or prosecution. If there are irregularities in the evidence, or if we believe that it was obtained improperly, we will challenge it and, whenever possible, have it excluded. This initial work places our clients in a more powerful position during plea negotiations, and gives us a stronger case should we need to go to trial.
- Negotiate: Your SBMH attorney will always look for the best option that fits the evidence and your particular circumstances and, throughout the process, we will protect your rights. In the past, depending on the facts and circumstances, we've successfully convinced prosecutor's to dismiss cases or, where appropriate, negotiated plea dispositions to lesser charges or specific sentencing recommendations. If the prosecutor won't agree to an acceptable resolution, he or she knows that our attorneys are prepared to aggressively defend each of our clients at trial.
- Trial: Most cases resolve by way of negotiation. However, at SBMH, your criminal defense lawyer prepares each case as if it is going to trial. The prosecution knows this and they take us seriously during negotiations. But, if the case does not resolve, our attorneys are always prepared for trial. Of course, the decision to go to trial is always one that is ultimately made by the client with the advice of his or her attorney. Still, even those clients who are not interested in a trial benefit from the representation of an attorney who the prosecution respects as an excellent advocate in the courtroom.
